What Is SWOT Analysis?
SWOT analysis is a strategic planning framework used by businesses, entrepreneurs, and organizations worldwide. It helps you evaluate your position by examining four key dimensions: internal factors (Strengths and Weaknesses) and external factors (Opportunities and Threats).
The Four Quadrants
Strengths are internal advantages — what you do well. Weaknesses are internal limitations — where you fall short. Opportunities are external factors you can exploit. Threats are external risks that could cause problems.
When to Use It
Use SWOT analysis when launching a new product, entering a new market, evaluating a competitor, planning a career change, or making any strategic decision. It forces you to think systematically about both internal capabilities and external conditions.
Making It Actionable
The real power comes from combining quadrants: How can your Strengths exploit Opportunities? How can you use Strengths to mitigate Threats? What Opportunities could help overcome Weaknesses? These intersections become your strategic priorities.
Pro Tip
Create separate SWOT analyses for different aspects of your business — one for your product, one for your market position, one for your team. Comparing them side by side reveals patterns you might miss in a single combined analysis.
